Refund & Cancellation Policy
Effective date: June 13, 2026
This Refund & Cancellation Policy explains how trials, billing, cancellation, and refunds work for Carry, the calm notebook and task-capture app at https://carry.booktomethod.com. It is written in plain English because we want it to be easy to understand, but it is a real part of our agreement with you. It works together with our Terms of Service (/terms-and-conditions) and our Privacy Policy (/privacy). Where those documents use defined terms, the same meanings apply here.
In this policy, "Carry", "we", "us", and "our" mean Ancapit S.R.L, the independent maker of Carry. "You" means the person who uses Carry or buys a subscription. "Paddle" means Paddle.com, the company that handles payments for Carry as our Merchant of Record (explained in Section 3). If anything here is unclear, or you would like help before or after a charge, just email us at support@booktomethod.com and a human will reply.
1. What is free and what is paid
Capturing notes by typing, and using your notebook locally on your own device, is free forever. You do not need a subscription, and you are never charged, to write and keep typed notes. A paid subscription only unlocks two extra features:
- Voice capture — speaking a note instead of typing it.
- AI shaping — turning a messy line into a clean task, event, or note and tidying the wording.
This policy covers money: trials, charges, renewals, cancellation, and refunds for the paid subscription. It does not affect the free notebook, which keeps working whether or not you ever pay.
2. The 7-day free trial — no card needed
When you first sign in, we grant you a 7-day free trial of the paid features inside the app. You do not enter a credit card or any payment details to start the trial, and you are not charged during it. There is nothing to cancel to avoid a charge, because no payment method is on file. You are only charged if you later choose to subscribe.
We collect payment details only if and when you choose to subscribe. If you reach the end of the trial and do not subscribe, the paid features simply pause. Your notebook and everything you wrote stay exactly where they are — Carry archives, it never deletes. The free trial is meant to give you a real chance to evaluate voice and AI shaping before you ever pay anything, which is why our refund policy below is structured the way it is.
The free trial is a one-time offer per account. It is granted once, when you first sign in, and is not granted again if you sign out and back in, sign in from a new device or browser, or return after a previous trial or subscription. If you think you are missing a trial you should have, email us at support@booktomethod.com and we'll look into it.
3. How billing works (Paddle is the seller of record)
When you decide to subscribe, your purchase is sold and processed by Paddle, which acts as our Merchant of Record and authorized reseller. In plain terms, Paddle — not Carry — is the seller of record for each transaction. Paddle runs the checkout, takes your payment, issues your invoice or receipt, and collects and remits any applicable sales tax or VAT. Because Paddle is the seller, Paddle's own buyer terms also apply to your purchase, in addition to this policy. You can read Paddle's buyer terms at https://www.paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms (or via the link in your Paddle receipt).
To be clear about who you are dealing with: your payment contract for the subscription is with Paddle as reseller, while your licence to use Carry and the service itself is provided by us, Ancapit S.R.L, under our Terms of Service (/terms-and-conditions). The refunds described in this policy are authorised by us and processed for you through Paddle. So if you ever want a refund or have a billing question, you can come to us at support@booktomethod.com and we will sort it out — you do not have to figure out on your own whether to talk to Carry or to Paddle.
There are exactly two paid plans, both priced in US dollars:
- Monthly — USD $8.99 per month.
- Yearly — USD $59 per year.
When you subscribe, Paddle charges you for your first billing period immediately — there is no delayed conversion or hidden later charge — and your subscription then renews automatically as described in Section 4. Prices are shown before you confirm. Depending on where you are, Paddle may add sales tax or VAT at checkout, and that amount will be shown to you before you pay. Your receipts and invoices come from Paddle. If you ever need a copy of an invoice, you can get it from Paddle or ask us at support@booktomethod.com and we'll point you to it.
4. Automatic renewal
Paid subscriptions renew automatically so your access doesn't get interrupted. A monthly plan renews every month, and a yearly plan renews every year, at the then-current price for your plan, using the payment method on file with Paddle. Renewal continues until you cancel.
For the yearly plan, Paddle sends a renewal reminder by email before the renewal date, so you have time to cancel if you wish before the next charge.
Each renewal is a fresh charge for the upcoming period. If we ever change subscription prices, we will give you reasonable advance notice — at least 14 days — before the change takes effect, consistent with our Terms of Service (/terms-and-conditions), and the new price will only apply to renewals after that notice, never retroactively. You can cancel at any time before a renewal to avoid the next charge — see Section 5.
5. Cancelling your subscription
You can cancel at any time, for any reason, with no phone call and no hoops. There are two ways to do it:
- Through the customer portal operated by Paddle (the link is in your Paddle receipt or invoice email), or
- From within your Carry account.
Cancelling takes effect right away to stop all future renewals — there is no waiting period, no lock-in, and no cancellation fee. It does not cut off the time you've already paid for: you keep full access to the paid features until the end of the current billing period. When that period ends, the paid features (voice and AI shaping) simply pause.
Cancelling never deletes anything. Your free text notebook keeps working, and every note you've written stays archived and available. If you resubscribe later, the paid features switch back on. To remove your data entirely, that's a separate choice you control — see our Privacy Policy (/privacy) for how to export or delete your data and account.
6. Our refund policy
Here is the honest version. Because we give you a 7-day free trial with no card to evaluate the paid features, and because you can cancel at any time to stop the next charge, payments for the current billing period are generally non-refundable. When you renew, you're paying for the upcoming period of access.
That said, we'd rather you feel good about Carry than hold onto a payment you regret. So as a goodwill policy, we will refund a charge if you ask within 14 days of that charge, in situations such as:
- You're simply not happy with the paid features and want your money back.
- An auto-renewal went through that you didn't intend or had meant to cancel.
- You were charged by mistake, twice, or for something you didn't expect.
For yearly plans, the 14-day goodwill window runs from the date of the charge for that yearly period. Outside that window we do not provide pro-rated refunds for the unused part of a period you have already paid for — for example, if you cancel an annual plan partway through the year, you keep full access until the end of that year but we don't refund the remaining months by default. We may still choose to help at our discretion, and your mandatory consumer rights in Section 7 always apply.
To request a refund, email us at support@booktomethod.com, or request it directly through Paddle. You don't need to write a long justification — a short note is plenty. We aim to respond to refund requests within 3 business days. We may, at our discretion, offer refunds outside these situations or after the 14-day window; nothing here stops us from being more generous, and nothing here limits the statutory rights described in Section 7.
7. Your statutory consumer rights
Nothing in this policy takes away or limits any mandatory consumer rights you have under the laws that apply to you. Those rights always come first. Where the law gives you a right to a refund, cancellation, or withdrawal that is stronger than what this policy offers, the law wins. This is true wherever you live — for example, consumers in the European Union, the United Kingdom, certain US states (for example, under state automatic-renewal and consumer-protection laws such as California's), Australia, and elsewhere keep all of the local mandatory rights their law gives them, regardless of anything in this policy or in Paddle's terms.
If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you generally have a 14-day right of withdrawal for distance contracts, and we honour it. For digital services like the paid features, the law allows that right to end before the 14 days are up only where all of the following are true: before we begin, you gave your express consent to start the service immediately, you acknowledged that doing so means you will lose your right of withdrawal once the service has been fully performed, and we confirmed your agreement to you on a durable medium. We will only treat your withdrawal right as reduced where those conditions have actually been met. If they have not been met, you keep the full 14-day right of withdrawal, and merely using voice or AI shaping does not by itself take that right away.
In any case, our 14-day goodwill refund in Section 6 is designed to be at least as fair as the withdrawal right in practice, and our free trial means you can evaluate everything before you pay at all.
8. How refunds are issued
Approved refunds are processed by Paddle, since Paddle is the Merchant of Record for your purchase. Refunds go back to the original payment method you used — we can't redirect a refund to a different card or account.
Once a refund is approved, Paddle processes it promptly. How quickly the money actually appears on your statement depends on your bank or card provider and is outside our control; it commonly takes several business days, and sometimes up to a billing cycle, to show up. Where the law requires a statutory refund — for example a valid EU/UK right-of-withdrawal refund — we and Paddle will issue it within the timeframe the law requires, and the practical "up to a billing cycle" note above does not override that legal deadline. If you've been refunded for the current period, the related paid access ends, while your free notebook and all your notes remain untouched. For how to export or delete your data, see our Privacy Policy (/privacy).
9. Chargebacks — please talk to us first
If you see a charge you don't recognise or think is wrong, please contact us at support@booktomethod.com, or reach out through Paddle, before asking your bank for a chargeback. Almost every billing issue — an unexpected renewal, a double charge, a tax line you didn't expect — we can sort out quickly and directly, usually faster than a chargeback would resolve.
Filing a chargeback or payment dispute without contacting us first can lead the payment provider to suspend or close your billing access while the dispute is investigated. We'd much rather just fix the problem for you. Reaching out never affects your statutory rights.
10. Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails — for example because a card expired — Paddle may try the charge again. If payment still can't be completed, your paid features pause in the same way they do after cancellation. As always, your free notebook keeps working and nothing you wrote is deleted. You can update your payment details through Paddle or your account to restore the paid features.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Refund & Cancellation Policy from time to time, for example if our plans or payment setup change. When we make a meaningful change, we'll update the effective date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know in the app. Changes are not retroactive: the version in effect at the time of a given charge governs that charge.
12. Governing law and where you can bring a claim
This policy is governed by the laws of Argentina, where Carry's founder is based. This choice of law does not override the mandatory consumer-protection rights of the country where you live, which continue to apply to you as described in Section 7. Where local consumer law gives you the right to do so, you can also bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live, and nothing in this policy is meant to require you to litigate only in Argentina if your home law says otherwise. This governing-law and venue clause, and the Merchant-of-Record statement in Section 3, are consistent with our Terms of Service (/terms-and-conditions) and our Privacy Policy (/privacy).
