Carry — Terms of Service (Terms & Conditions)
Effective date: June 13, 2026
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are an agreement between you and Ancapit S.R.L, the independent maker of Carry ("Carry", "we", "us", or "our"). They cover your use of the Carry app at https://carry.booktomethod.com, including the free reading guide at /guide. Please read them carefully — they are written in plain language on purpose, but they are still a binding contract.
Carry is a small, founder-run ("indie") product, not a large company. The founder is based in Argentina. We have done our best to keep these Terms honest, short, and human, while still being complete. They work alongside our Privacy Policy (/privacy) and our Refund Policy (/refund), which are part of this agreement by reference.
Key terms at a glance
Here are a few words we use a lot, defined once so the rest reads clearly:
- "Plans" — the two paid subscription options: USD $8.99 per month, or USD $59 per year. These unlock the paid features (voice capture and AI shaping).
- "Trial" — your 7-day free trial of the paid features. No credit card is required, and no payment is collected during it.
- "Renewal date" — the day your current paid period ends and the next period would begin. To avoid being charged for the next period, you cancel before this date.
- "Archive" — when paid features stop (cancellation, a failed payment, or your subscription ending), your entries are kept and set aside, not deleted. We only remove your synced data from our servers when you actively delete your content or your account.
- "Paddle" — Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record, which sells, bills, and collects payment for each subscription on our behalf.
- "Consumer" — someone who uses Carry for personal purposes, outside any trade, business, craft, or profession. Where these Terms give extra protections to a "consumer", they apply if you are one under the law of the country where you live.
1. Who we are and accepting these Terms
Carry is operated by Ancapit S.R.L. By creating an account, signing in, starting a free trial, subscribing, or otherwise using Carry, you confirm that you have read these Terms and agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree, please do not use Carry.
If you are using Carry on behalf of someone else or an organisation, you confirm you have the authority to accept these Terms for them. Otherwise, these Terms apply to you personally.
2. What Carry is
Carry is a calm, minimalist notebook for journaling and capturing tasks. The idea is simple: dump what's in your head with zero friction. Some of Carry is free forever, and some features are paid. There is also a free reading guide at /guide, which is part of the free offering and open to anyone.
The free part: typing notes and entries. Your notes are kept in your own browser (using IndexedDB) so they work offline and feel instant. Typed/local capture is free forever and does not require a subscription. When you are signed in, your entries also sync to our backend so you can reach them across devices — and that synced copy is the authoritative one. This means your data is transferred to and stored on servers in the United States; our Privacy Policy (/privacy) explains where, how, and the safeguards we rely on for international transfers (including for users in the EEA and UK).
The paid part: a subscription unlocks two features. (1) Voice capture — speak instead of type, and Carry turns your speech into text. (2) AI "shaping" — Carry takes a messy line and suggests a clean task, event, or note and tidies the wording. These are conveniences layered on top of the notebook; the free typed notebook keeps working with or without them.
3. Eligibility and age
You must be at least 13 years old to use Carry. In places where a higher minimum age applies for online services — for example, 16 in parts of the European Economic Area (EEA) — you must meet that higher age. By using Carry you confirm you meet the minimum age that applies where you live.
If you are under the age required to agree to these Terms on your own, you may only use Carry with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.
4. Your account
You sign in to Carry using "Sign in with Google". This is handled through Amazon Cognito, and from Google we receive basic profile information (your email address and given name). We do not see or store your Google password. Your use of Google sign-in is also subject to Google's own terms.
- Accounts are for one human. Please don't share an account or let others sign in as you.
- You are responsible for activity that happens under your account and for keeping access to your Google account secure.
- Keep your contact email accurate so we can reach you about your subscription and important notices.
- If you think someone has accessed your account without permission, tell us at support@booktomethod.com as soon as you can.
5. Free trial, subscription, and billing
When you first sign in, Carry grants you a 7-day free trial of the paid features (voice and AI shaping). No credit card is required for the trial — we do not collect any payment details during it. We only ask for payment information if and when you decide to subscribe.
Because no card is collected during the trial, the trial does not automatically turn into a paid plan. When your 7 days end, the paid features simply pause unless you actively choose to subscribe. You are never charged just for trying Carry.
There are exactly two paid plans, both in US dollars: USD $8.99 per month, or USD $59 per year. You choose which one you want when you subscribe. Prices are charged in USD, and Paddle may add any applicable local sales tax or VAT on top at checkout, so the total you pay can be higher than the headline price depending on where you are.
Paid subscriptions auto-renew. A monthly plan renews every month, and a yearly plan renews every year, until you cancel. Each renewal is charged automatically to the payment method you gave Paddle, on the renewal date, at the then-current price plus any applicable tax that Paddle collects at that time — unless you cancel before that date. For annual plans, Paddle sends a renewal reminder before the renewal date so you have time to decide. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel before your current period ends — cancelling stops future renewals but does not by itself refund the period you are already in (see our Refund Policy at /refund).
All payments are processed by Paddle.com ("Paddle"), which acts as our Merchant of Record and authorized reseller. This means Paddle is the seller of record for each transaction: Paddle runs the checkout, takes your payment, issues your invoices and receipts, and collects and remits any applicable sales tax or VAT. When you buy a subscription, Paddle's own buyer terms also apply to your purchase, in addition to these Terms; you can read them at https://www.paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms, and Paddle's privacy notice is at https://www.paddle.com/legal/privacy.
Your statutory rights as a consumer: if you are a consumer in the EU/EEA or the UK, you may have a statutory right to withdraw from your purchase within 14 days. How this right works for a digital subscription you start using straight away — including how starting the paid features can affect it — is explained in our Refund Policy (/refund), so the details live in one place. Nothing in these Terms takes away a mandatory consumer right you have where you live.
Cancelling: you can cancel any time through your account in Carry, or via the customer portal / billing management provided by Paddle (you can reach it from your subscription details and from the receipt emails Paddle sends you). Cancelling before your renewal date stops the next charge. If you ever can't find where to cancel, email us at support@booktomethod.com and we'll help.
What happens when you cancel — or if a renewal payment fails: the paid features (voice and AI shaping) simply pause. Your free text notebook keeps working exactly as before. Cancelling, a failed payment, or your subscription ending never deletes anything you wrote — your entries are archived and kept. If you resubscribe later, your paid features turn back on.
Refunds are handled through Paddle in line with our Refund Policy (/refund). Please read that policy for how and when you can request a refund; you can also email refund requests to support@booktomethod.com.
6. Price changes
We may change our prices in the future. If we change the price of a plan you are subscribed to, we will give you reasonable advance notice — at least 14 days — before the change takes effect on your next renewal, for example by email to the address on your account. If you don't want to continue at the new price, you can cancel before it applies. The price for a billing period you've already paid won't change for that period.
7. Acceptable use
Carry is a personal notebook, and we keep the rules light. But there are a few things you agree not to do:
- Don't use Carry for anything illegal, or to store or share content that is unlawful where you are.
- Don't abuse, attack, overload, or try to break the service, and don't attempt to gain unauthorized access to it or to other people's data.
- Don't reverse-engineer, decompile, or try to extract the source code of the app, except to the limited extent the law allows you to despite this restriction.
- Don't scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract from the service, or use bots to abuse the voice or AI features.
- Don't resell, rent out, or commercially redistribute Carry or your access to it.
- Don't use Carry to infringe anyone's rights or to harass, harm, or impersonate others.
You are responsible for the content you put into Carry and for making sure your use follows the law that applies to you.
8. Your content stays yours
Your notes are yours. You own everything you write in Carry. We don't claim ownership of your content, and we will not sell it or publish it.
To run the service for you, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, store, sync, back up, transcribe, and AI-shape your content — but only as needed to operate the features you use and to provide Carry to you. For example: to sync your notes we store them on our backend; to give you voice capture we send the audio for transcription; to give you AI shaping we send the relevant entry text to our AI provider. This licence exists only so the product can work, and it ends when your content is removed, except for copies kept briefly in routine backups, or where the law requires us to retain it — see our Privacy Policy (/privacy) for retention details.
There are two clearly different things here, so we want to be precise. Archiving is not deletion: cancelling, a failed payment, or your subscription ending never removes anything — your entries are archived and kept. The only time we remove your synced data from our servers is when you actively delete your account, or delete the content yourself. You can export your data at any time, and you can delete it when you choose to. See our Privacy Policy (/privacy) for the full details of how your data is handled.
9. About the AI and voice features (please read)
The AI "shaping" feature is a helper, not an authority. It is intentionally simple — "dumb on purpose" — and it can be wrong, incomplete, or odd. It suggests a tidy task, event, or note; it does not know your life, and it does not replace your judgement.
Carry's AI is not professional advice. It is not legal, medical, financial, or any other kind of professional advice, and you should not rely on it as such. You are responsible for reviewing what the AI and voice features produce before you act on it. Voice transcription can also mishear words, so please check transcripts. Voice audio is processed transiently — it is sent to our transcription provider only to produce the transcript, and is not retained as a recording afterwards.
To be clear about training: we do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not permit our providers to use your content to train their models. More on the providers involved is in the next section and in our Privacy Policy (/privacy).
10. Third-party services we rely on
Carry is built on a handful of trusted third-party services. Your use of Carry depends on them, and their own terms and policies may also apply to you. The main ones are:
- Google — "Sign in with Google" for authentication (we receive basic profile info).
- Amazon Web Services, including Amazon Cognito — authentication and hosting/storage of synced data, in the United States (us-east-1).
- Groq — transient transcription of voice recordings into text.
- Anthropic — the AI text "shaping" of your entries.
- Paddle — payment processing as Merchant of Record (checkout, billing, invoices, tax).
- Google Analytics — usage analytics, loaded only after you grant consent in the in-app banner.
Because hosting and storage happen in the United States, your data is transferred to and stored there. Our Privacy Policy (/privacy) explains the safeguards we rely on for these international transfers (including for users in the EEA and UK), along with the full list of sub-processors and what each one does with data.
We choose these providers carefully, but we don't control them and aren't responsible for their services. If one of them changes, has an outage, or is unavailable, parts of Carry may be affected.
11. Our intellectual property
While your content is yours, Carry itself is ours. The Carry app, its design, the "Carry" name and branding, the guide content at /guide, and everything we create to provide the service are owned by Ancapit S.R.L or our licensors, and are protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use Carry as intended under these Terms — nothing more. You may not copy, modify, or build a competing product from Carry, except where the law expressly allows it.
12. Availability — "as is" and changing features
We work hard to keep Carry running well and to keep your data safe, but Carry is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make reasonable efforts to keep it available, but we do not guarantee any particular uptime, and the service may sometimes be slow, interrupted, or unavailable — including because of one of the third-party services above.
Because Carry is an evolving indie product, we may add, change, pause, or withdraw features over time. If we make a significant change that materially reduces a paid feature you are paying for, we will act reasonably and in line with our Refund Policy (/refund). Remember the core promise: your free text notebook keeps working, and nothing you wrote is deleted — your entries are archived and kept unless you actively delete them yourself.
13. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, Carry is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that the AI or voice outputs will be accurate or fit for any particular purpose. You use Carry's outputs at your own discretion and risk.
Nothing in this section removes any warranty or right that cannot legally be excluded — including consumer rights you may have where you live, such as the EU/EEA or UK right to withdraw from a purchase described in Section 5 and our Refund Policy (/refund). Those rights still apply.
14. Limitation of liability
Carry is an inexpensive, personal tool, and our liability is limited to match. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses, for lost profits, or for lost or corrupted data beyond what reasonable backups would recover.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any and all claims relating to Carry is capped at the greater of (a) the total subscription fees you paid for Carry (via Paddle, our Merchant of Record) in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD $50.
We do not exclude or limit anything that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — for example liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that applicable consumer-protection or other mandatory law does not allow us to limit. Where such law gives you stronger protections, those protections apply.
15. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because you broke these Terms or the law, or because of unlawful content you put into Carry, you agree to cover the reasonable, direct, third-party costs and damages we face as a result. This is meant to be light and proportionate for a personal app: it is limited to claims caused by your breach or your unlawful content, and it does not apply to the extent the claim is caused by us.
Nothing in this indemnity requires you to pay more than is permitted by the mandatory consumer-protection law that applies where you live, and it does not apply at all where such law prohibits requiring this of a consumer. Where you have stronger protections under that law, those protections apply and this clause is read down accordingly.
16. Suspension and termination
You can stop using Carry at any time. You can cancel your subscription whenever you like (see Section 5), and you can delete your account, which removes your synced data from our servers.
We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if your use puts the service or other people at risk, or if we are required to by law. Where it's reasonable to do so, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to put things right.
If your subscription ends for any reason, the paid features simply pause and your free text notebook keeps working. Ending a subscription never deletes anything — your entries are archived and kept. The only time your synced data is removed from our servers is when you actively delete your account or delete the content yourself. If we ever discontinue Carry entirely, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to export your data first.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time — for example, when features change or the law changes. When we make a material change, we'll update the effective date at the top and let you know by a reasonable method, such as a notice in the app or an email to the address on your account, before the change takes effect.
If you keep using Carry after a change takes effect, that means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't agree to a change, you can cancel and stop using Carry.
18. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Argentina. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of that country. Nothing here requires you to litigate only in Argentina.
If you are not a consumer — for example, you accepted these Terms on behalf of a business — then disputes relating to these Terms or to Carry will be handled in the courts of Argentina (City of Buenos Aires). If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws that apply where you live, or of the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your own country of residence where the law gives you that right.
Before going to court, please reach out to us at support@booktomethod.com — most issues can be sorted out quickly and directly. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
19. How to contact us
Carry is operated by Ancapit S.R.L, an independent founder based in Argentina. For support, billing or refund questions, account help, or anything about these Terms, email us at support@booktomethod.com. We read every message.
Related policies: our Privacy Policy (/privacy) explains how we handle your data, and our Refund Policy (/refund) explains refunds. Together with these Terms of Service (/terms-and-conditions), they make up your agreement with us for using Carry.
